    A Rare Hand Crafted Mortlock Islands (Also called the Nomoi Islands) (Chuuk, formerly Truk of the Federated States of Micronesia) Tapuana Mask Crafted from Breadfruit Wood
    11 1/4 inches (28.6 cm) high x 4 ¾ inches (12 cm) wide x 3 inches (7.6 cm) deep.

    Condition: Very Good: There is wear and some losses to the paint.
    Description: Although large Tapuana masks were made to be worn in dance ceremonies to protect the breadfruit crop, and sometimes danced to ward off typhoons, smaller masks were affixed to the rafter ends of the sacred house for protective purposes. This mask was from an East San Francisco Bay area estate with no collection history.
