    Description

This is a pig tally worn by men in the PNG Highlands.  It is a modern rendition, 10 1/4" x 4", with a 22" necklace portion.  It is made from sections of small bamboo and seeds called "Job's tears" on a string.  I used to have an old one which was stolen by a high end Oceanic Art dealer!  Traditionally, they are about half as wide and 1/3 to 1/2 as long.  Also they just have a simple string which is worn snug around the neck like a choker.  The old ones usually have a rich dark patina but this one appears to be unused.
