Description
This is a vintage Glenmorangie Distillery Highland Single Malt Scotch Whiskey Ceramic Miniature Pitcher/Jug. Condition is “unused-excellent” but selling as “used” as it was out for display a few years. Excellent condition: No Chips, Cracks, or Crazing.Perfect for that intimate setting where water quality is desired over quantity, this 3” tall beauty was specially produced by The Glenmorangie Distillery Coy, Tain, Ross-Shire, Scotland. It would make a great display piece in the home or office bar, in the man cave or the she-shed, and of course it would be amazing as a working piece!
Glenmorangie has existed as a distillery since 1843 when William Matheson bought a licence to make whisky on the site of a brewery located near the Tarlogie Springs in Ross-shire in the highlands of Scotland.
Matheson bought two second-hand gin stills to make his spirit, and the distillery is famous for having the tallest stills in Scotland, although these days there are eight stills rather than just two (with more to come).
In 1918, the distillery was bought by Macdonald and Muir, who steered Glenmorangie through the difficult inter-war period when the combination of Prohibition and the Great Depression made conditions very difficult for the industry as a whole. Having survived, Glenmorangie went on to flourish, doubling the number of stills to four in 1977 and again to eight in 1990, the year after the company had secured the future of its own water source by buying 650 acres of land around the Tarlogie Springs.
Although it may not have been the very first company to experiment with the technique of wood/cask finishing, there is no doubt that Glenmorangie embraced the concept wholeheartedly in the 1990s and has since introduced a long-running series of finishes, with the three main expressions having been finished in Madeira, Sherry and Port casks.
The Glenmorangie Original has a flavor profile with hints of Mandarin, Lemon, Apple, Pear, Peach, Vanilla, Honeysuckle and Ginger.
